Example Passport Photos
Requirements for New Zealand passport photos are as follows:
- Dimensions: 35 x 45mm (printed), 900-4500 x 1200-6000px (digital)
- Two identical photos in colour
- Less than six months old
- No photo editing (background removal, editing of the face, etc.)
- No red eye
- Glasses allowed with no reflections on the lenses, and no part of the frame obscuring the eyes – tinted glasses are not allowed
- A clear image with the subject in focus
- Face aligned in the centre – 32 and 36mm in height from the chin to the top of the head within the photo
- Subject facing forward – not with head tilted
- Even lighting – no shadows on the face or otherwise
- Nothing obstructing outline of the face (religious face coverings accepted, as long as they do not obscure the outline of the face – see example photos)
- Fashion headgear not allowed (beanies, bows in hair, etc.)
- Plain white/grey background
- Subject’s eyes open, mouth closed – neutral expression
- Not printed on an inkjet printer
